Colossians 3:2 (NIV) Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Has watching television, and viewing social media sites left you feeling hopeless, mentally and emotionally drained? If so, take a break from both. Some things we view on television are far from being truthful and designed to instill fear and worry. God wants us to prioritize our time and use it wisely. This will require establishing healthy boundaries, and growing in the area of self-discipline. You aren’t required to answer every call when your phone rings, instantly respond to every text message, post, email, or notification as soon as you receive a chime. It’s ok to send an instant message sharing that you will return a call or text at your earliest convenience, or allow a call to go to voicemail. You may have to stop watching certain broadcasts, turn from a lustful commercial, and, resist scrolling through social media news feeds. Otherwise, the enemy will keep you distracted, and self-absorbed, re-directing your thoughts and actions solely on the things that gives temporal gratification instead of things that will please God and bring eternal gain. Setting your mind on things above simply means change your focus, view things from God’s perspective rather than the world’s perspective. Too many times what we allow ourselves to hear and view hinders us from walking in the Spirit. Everything we view or hear isn’t pure or wholesome. Some content and messages contain impurity, lust, greed, idolatry, hatred, lies, witchcraft, etc. these ungodly things can appeal to our fleshly nature tempting us to sin. Galatians 5:16 (NIV) reads…live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. So, begin developing a spiritually healthy lifestyle by keeping God and the things of God your first priority and ask God for discernment and help to live a life pleasing to Him. By doing so, you’ll feel the pressures of life being lifted, Gods’ peace, restored hope and comfort in knowing that God is Sovereign. Possessing ALL wisdom, knows everything, able to direct ALL things, and can intervene in any situation or problem at will, any time on any given day. So, today, rest in this truth.
