About Us

H.Y.M.N.S. is an Evangelical Christian nonprofit organization founded in 2007. We are passionate about helping young single moms as they face the challenges of being sole caregivers to their children and assuming all household financial responsibilities while working and pursuing their professional careers. We encourage and help them become successful in reaching their academic goals, and fulfilling their God-given purpose.

About the Founder

Jackie grew up sixth out of nine children in a two-parent home until at age ten her father tragically drowned due to a boating accident. She witnessed her mother go through many hardships and struggles as she raised nine children as a widow. Because of this, there was one title she never wanted for herself, and that was “single mom.” She married early at age 19 and had two daughters two years apart. The marriage ended in divorce after 10 years, and she became the single mom she never wanted to be. She describes life as very hard and challenging at best. She managed to work full-time and sometimes juggle an additional part-time job while attending college until she eventually obtained an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Graduating with honors gave her the self-confidence she needed to continue to pursue her bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Studies as well as a master’s degree in Teaching. She later describes pursuing these degrees while working and being a full-time single mom as one of the most stressful times in her life. It was very challenging, and the financial struggles, mental and physical stress were unrelenting. This painful period of her life is what birthed H.Y.M.N.S. (Helping Young Mothers Nationwide Succeed) The non-profit organization she founded in 2007. She felt that there was a lack of programs in place that rewarded single moms for their hard work in fulfilling their life-long aspirations, and she wanted to fill that void. She remembers what it felt like to struggle and now she is very passionate about helping to lighten the load of young moms in any way she can. Jackie has been a Born-Again Christian for over 41 years. She loves the Lord and thoroughly enjoys serving Him. By God’s mercy and grace Jackie made it through those tough times and experienced success in many areas of her life. She is most proud of having raised godly daughters on her own, that love the Lord and are degreed professionals, and great moms. In her spare time, she enjoys artwork, interior decorating and spending time with family and friends.
